Warm temperatures in southern states lead to drownings all year round. Even though children 4 years and under are at highest risk, it's important to know that children of all ages drown in Texas pools, lakes and surprisingly, bathtubs.
Annual Lifeguard Your Child Report:
Rising drowning statistics in North Texas inspired community partners to respond to Cook Children's call to action by participating in the Lifeguard Your Child campaign, and by collaborating on consistent messages and goals across our region. Much of the success of this campaign is due to community interventions and actions of our partners. The investment of time and dedication toward educating and informing families in communities across 8 counties will continue to make impact toward a healthier, safer region.
- Increase the number of sustainable partner cities and organizations
- Target education to parents and caregivers of children ages 1-4 years of age
- Update and enforce pool ordinances
